I had the privilege of having my wisdom teeth extracted yesterday at the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic at MUSC. I had been having trouble with them for the past week and after a visit to my dentist on Monday, he recommended I just get them out. Thankfully, the surgery clinic saw me for a consult on Wednesday afternoon and fit me in between OR cases on Thursday. So yesterday I had the joy of being a patient undergoing anesthesia for the first time in my life. A second year resident started my IV and hooked me up to the monitors. I think he was nervous because he found out I am a nurse, poor thing, but he got the IV on the first stick. I sat waiting for a while, listening to my heart rate on the monitors before the attending and residents rushed in to get me sleepy. The last thing I remember as they were pumping my IV with versed and fentanyl was my head swimming, and saying “whoa” as I blacked out. When I woke up, I was in the recovery room, my IV was gone, and apparently I had asked several times already how I had gotten there there and if had walked from the operatory to the recovery room. Austin was a great nurse yesterday packing my mouth with gauze and my face with ice packs, allowing me to sleep off the meds. Strange to be on the receiving end. I’m so used to starting IVs and putting people to sleep. I guess this will give me more empathy for my patients. What an experience.

PS. Elise and I are really really really busy…(i am actually at work right now)…but pictures and more posts are coming soon.
I got a 31 on my MCAT!!! I think that ought to get me into medical school finally! All the Glory should go to Christ, for all the help and encouragement and strength that he has given me.
And thank all of you for all your prayers!
OOOOOOO and if you are not sure what will happen when this new healthcare bill goes through check out this video about Canadian healthcare system:
Well up untill two days ago I had prided myself on the fact that I had never gotten a computer Virus….Well I cannot say that anymore. I downloaded the wrong thing and a hackers pride and joy danced a jig inside my computer.
Virus’s are nasty little buggers. So be carefull not to download the wrong thing like I did.
I had to boot the computer up in Dos mode (with my dad’s and Hector’s help of course) and copy my pictures individually to save them. Lets just hope that the virus is not on my external hard drive.
I came across this article a while back when I was a little curious about health insurance and its benefits and problems. This article really hits on some truth that I want to share with you. I know that the article may seem a little long and kinda hard to understand, but push through I think it really has some ideological benefits. Just trust me….I think it will have you thinking about things a little differently.
I know that this is not a solution, but I think it takes us knowing what the problem is before we can really work things out. So to that end, I would love to hear from any of you who have ideas about how we can fix the predicament that we are in. With healthcare being my future profession, I think that some dialogue would be a good thing for me. So hit me with whatever you got. I want to hear it. Tell me what you think of my agreement with this Oh-so-interesting article.
